Elia Sala or "Salya", was born in Milan, in April 1864. He was an Italian artist who ranged between painting, sculpture and architecture. He worked mainly in Slavic countries, becoming one of the main collaborators of the artist Vladislav Gorodecsky. In particular, Sala worked on some important architectural works in Kiev, including the House of Chimeras, the National Bank of Ukraine building and the Karaite Synagogue. His artistic career continued until his death in Gorlaprecotto on 10 January 1920.
