Giulio Salvadori Biography

Giulio Salvadori (1918-1999) was born in Mosio (Mantua). He was a painter. He graduated from the Istituto Magistrale of Parma but looked with particular interest at the field of art, especially approaching the painter Carlo Mattioli. During subsequent stays in Paris, he became acquainted with the art of Picasso, Modigliani and the Fauves and was attracted, in the 1930s, by the German expressionist movement of the Brücke. In 1936 he won the Agonali dell'Arte. Upon his return from the Russian campaign, he had frequent contacts with some of the protagonists of Italian art in the mid-century - Carrà, Birolli and Guidi - and in 1945 he participated in the Mostra della Libertà in Palazzo Ducale, in Mantua. He was present several times at the Suzzara Prize, where he was among the winners in 1949, 1959 and 1961. In 1966 and 1968 he won the Treccani Prize. Several solo and group exhibitions followed, culminating in the posthumous exhibition dedicated to him by the Gazoldo Museum of Modern Art in 1999. His compositions are stylistically close to expressionism and primitivism; through a harsh and clearly marked figuration, the artist deals above all with the theme of landscape and that of nature in its relationships with man.
