Andrea Salvetti Biography
Andrea Salvetti completed studies in art and architecture, however, he always preferred to work with his hands. Having become a sculptor and designer, he founded his personal laboratory in 1991. Andrea worked personally in the workshop and cultivated the belief in know-how and self-production, developing tools and machines to master the material. His activity has developed across various interdisciplinary fields, including sculpture, design, environmental installations, performance and cuisine. The works deriving from these often struggle to refer to and emancipate themselves from a specific sector, preferring instead to unite them horizontally.
To create his works, Andrea used different materials and technologies, with particular attention to metals. Since 1996, he has collaborated regularly with Italian and international art and design galleries such as Nilufar, Dilmos, Must Gallery and Avant-Scène. He participated in the 48th Venice Art Biennale and has exhibited his works in exhibitions and catalogs in Italy and abroad, such as the Triennale di Milano, the Galleria Civica di Trento and the Focke Museum in Bremen. Some of his works have been exhibited at international fairs such as Design Miami/Basel, Moscow Design Week, PAD Paris-London, Arte Fiera, Art Dubai and Swab Barcelona. He has created monumental sculptures for public spaces and was selected for SMACH 2013. His works are present in important auction houses such as Sotheby's, Pierre Bergé, Phillips de Pury and Artcurial.
Andrea has also collaborated with various design manufacturing companies and has created exclusive furnishings designed specifically for Sony, Heineken and Costagroup. Over the years, he has established a special collaborative relationship with Philippe Starck, for whom he has created unique works for many of his projects. During the years of intense production, his creations were published in catalogs and magazines of various sectors. In 2007, Electa published the monograph "Terra-Terra".
Within Andrea's artistic vision, food goes beyond the physical limits of the plate to take on cultural, ethical and aesthetic values. The expressive forms that arise from this idea are works of art that occupy the table, creating an extended time in which the convivial moment of the meal mixes with physical and intellectual nutrition. His Food Art performances are created with the belief that the eating public is an integral part of the work itself. His creations include: Fire sculptures, sculptural forms in aluminium, a tree, a lamb, a large pot, placed on an open-air brazier for several hours, presented at the Convergence Pollenzo - Food Art Philosophy conference in 2013; Petrol: Oxidized bitumen, pheasant, potatoes and cabbage, a project created for the 48th Venice Biennale in 1998; Architecture of hunger and thirst for the University of Pisa in 2008; Life tube in 2013, a work of "cerebral and visceral eating", a natural pig casing containing all the ingredients of life; finally, La Tavola Conviviale, a project born from the meeting between the artist and the chef Paolo Lopriore in 2016.
