Salvador Sanchez Barbudo Biography
Salvador Sanchez Barbudo was born in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, on March 14, 1857. He completed his first art studies under the guidance of José Villegas at the School of Fine Arts in Seville. After completing his military service, he decided to continue his studies in Rome, where he moved permanently and remained fascinated by the eternal city. Barbudo made Rome the absolute protagonist of his painting, representing it in many of his genre paintings, landscapes and portraits, for which he was particularly appreciated. Among his most important works, there are historical scenes, including one from the last act of "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare, which earned him a prize at the Exhibition of Fine Arts in Madrid in 1886. He participated in the Venice Biennials in 1895 and 1897, and many of his works are currently held in various museums, including the Prado Museum in Madrid. Salvador Sanchez Barbudo died in Rome on November 28, 1917.
