Douglas Sanderson was born in 1942. His first documented exhibition was Six Visions at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA in 1970, and his most recent was New Acquisitions & Old Friends at the Allen Memorial Art Museum in Oberlin, OH in 2021 Sanderson shows his work primarily in the United States, but has also participated in exhibitions in Italy and the United Arab Emirates. Over the past half century, Sanderson has presented at least two solo exhibitions and eleven group exhibitions. Among the exhibitions that deserve particular mention are those held at MoMA PS1 and at the Drawing Center in New York City. Additionally, Sanderson has exhibited his art alongside that of Ted Stamm and Jake Berthot. At least one work by Sanderson is present in a museum collection, at the art galleries of Wright State University in Dayton.
