Giancarlo Sangregorio (Milan 1925) As a young man he spent long periods in Val Vigezzo where, fascinated by the material, he began to sculpt stone works carried out directly in the quarries as a self-taught person. He completed his classical studies and attended courses at the Brera Academy. In that period he began his participation in important group exhibitions and took an active part in the controversies and manifestations of the avant-garde trends of the post-war period. From 1950 Sangregorio undertook long study trips abroad, particularly to Paris. From 1950 to 1958 he often stayed in Versilia where he modeled ceramic figures and worked the marble of the Apuan Alps. In recent years he has followed the proposals of informal art with great interest, attracted above all by the climate from which those proposals derive, but he continues to develop the original elements of his own language. Since then he has participated in major international art events.
