Giusi Santoro Biography
Artist of Sicilian origins began his cultural education at the Maurolico classical high school in Messina. He attended the Faculty of Architecture and completed his studies at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, in painting, sculpture, and decoration, with the masters Aldo Carpi, Domenico Cantatore, Enrico Manfrini and Domenico Purificado (from 1953 to 1962). He continues his artistic research at the Raffaello Academy of Urbino (1983), where he engages in the art of lithography and the restoration of archaeological finds (1990). He went to Spain to the "Escola di Labisbal" (1987) to deepen his knowledge of the composition of minerals relating to application in ceramic art. She taught artistic subjects in state schools from 1970 to 1996, where she created clay manipulation workshops, ceramics and raku ceramic happenings and participation in a two-year psychopedagogy course on youth distress helped her to use her art in alternative strategies to learning in difficult cases. Her exhibition activity began at the turn of the 1950s and already while attending the painting faculty she was invited to numerous national and international group exhibitions, obtaining awards and critical acclaim. He stayed in France in 1963 and 1964, in England and Holland in 1965, where he refined his artistic knowledge and collaborated with artists of different nationalities. He exhibits in personal exhibitions in various cities in Italy and organizes happenings with the live participation of artists, amateurs and ordinary people to spread the ancient Japanese technique of Raku ceramics. In the 90s until 1997 he worked as a sculpture teacher at the laboratories of the municipality of Milan. At the same time he proposed the first ceramics course at the Centro Donna di San Donato Milanese, where in 1998, during the administration of the Mayor Gabriella Achilli, he actively participated in the birth of the civic art school "William Ciola", where he organized courses of ceramics, raku ceramics and sculpture until 2012.
