Ivo Sassi Biography

Ivo Sassi (1937 - 2020) was born in Brisighella in 1937. In 1950 he began attending the State Institute of Art for Ceramics in Faenza and had as teachers the sculptors Anselmo Bucci and Angelo Biancini and, as colleagues, Nanni Valentini and Carlo Niggers. In 1954 he worked in Carlo Zauli's workshop, a relationship which he interrupted in 1959, when he opened a personal studio in Faenza. In 1965 he created three large panels in polychrome majolica for the motor ships “Angelina” and “Achille Lauro”. In 1968 he obtained first prize at the 4th National Ceramics and Sculpture Competition “Francesca da Rimini” and the Gold Medal at the 6th Art Ceramics Competition in Cervia; in 1969 the First Prize at the XI International Competition of Gualdo Tadino and in 1970 the “Faenza Prize” at the XXVIII International Competition of Contemporary Art Ceramics in Faenza. In the same year he received the Prize for Sculpture at the Vallauris International Biennial. Among the works installed in public spaces we note: the Great Wing of 1988-'89 in the headquarters of the Banca di Romagna in Faenza, the Great Nike of 1988-'89 in Brisighella, the Great Fire of 1990-'91 in Faenza, the Colonna Rossa of 1996 in Bagnacavallo, the Great Stele of 1999 at the Bargellini Art Museum of Pieve di Cento, the Stele of Life of 1996-2002 in the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce of Ravenna, Verticale Rossa in Cesena in 2002, also in Cesena the two Towers for the large rotunda and Sculpture in 2007 in the headquarters of the Cefla factory in Imola.
