Fabio Savoldi Biography
Fabio Savoldi is an artist who currently resides in the province of Brescia. Starting in 1985, he undertook informal-material artistic research, experimenting with different materials and expressive techniques. In 2000, he gave rise to the series of Books and Presences, which dates back to the 1990s, introducing new shapes and colours. His cycles of works have explored two main themes: memory, through artistic installations, and the relationship of the human being with contemporary society. In the following years, his works had light and time as their central theme. In particular, starting from 2004, with the Cerini cycle, he has characterized his work by using an apparently simple material such as wax crayons, but with extremely complex and refined compositions. Wax crayon shavings were used to create representations of stars, galaxies and black holes, thus embodying light. Since 2001, Savoldi has worked on the theme of time, which inspired his erased photographs, works in which time materializes in rubber shavings. By progressively removing the image, the photographs transformed into a work of temporal direction, leaving the residues of their passage inside the chips. This has become a symbol of time, which triggers and flows continuously, changing all things. The relationship between Savoldi and matter can be understood in all his works, while the intellect, sensitivity and sensuality of the human being are present. His artistic production includes photographs, installations and paintings, offering testimony to his complex and rich expressive activity.
