Sergio Scanu Biography
Sergio Scanu was born in Turin in 1931 and is best known for his activity as a painter. He was a pupil of Filippo Scroppo and has exhibited his works since 1962 in personal exhibitions in Turin, Milan, Saint Vincent, Novara, Brescia, Asti, Mondovì, Albisola, Ivrea, Cuneo, Bardonecchia, Chieri, Loazzolo, Caselle and Bellinzago. Furthermore he has also exhibited in Paris and Prague.
Over the years, Scanu has perfected and further developed his own artistic style, offering successful solo works in the panorama of Italian figurative art. Among the most recent personal exhibitions are those held in Turin in 1999 at the Galleria Fogliato and in 2003 at the Galleria Arteregina.
Scanu's painting, in the seventies, reflected the emergence of the man-machine relationship: this manifested itself in compositions characterized by metamorphic figurations in which it was possible to observe hybridizations between the human and robotic elements. Subsequently, in his most recent works, the subjects of still lifes, portraits and landscapes of the Langhe and the Sienese hills are favoured. In these works Scanu makes use of a traditional expressionist language, both in the intense and surprising chromatic modulations, and in the clear and rigorous compositional structures, with an incisive and dynamic sign, not far from a neo-cubist type syntax.
