Salvatore Scarpitta (New York 1919 -2007) From 1936 to 1958 he lived in Rome. Starting from 1950, the drawings allow us to identify the progressive path of the explosion of form. Through the influence of cubist and futurist plasticity, the artist identifies the expression of form to dissect the preconceived image and infuse it with the vitality of life. The drawing is form in action, conflict between the structuring forces of the signs «it is a grip whose intensity contains the dynamics of its own explosion». In 1959 he exhibited his canvases made with bandages and fabric bands, which will be among his best-known works. At the beginning of the 1960s he built two racing cars, which soon became his signature style. In the United States he frequented the major artists of the time, from Mark Rothko to David Smith, Willem de Kooning, Conrad Marca-Relli, as well as critics such as Harold Rosenberg. But a large part of his activity takes place in Italy, where Scarpitta frequents the most innovative artists open to the international scene, from Alberto Burri to Piero Dorazio, Fontana, Turcato, Consagra. He was present with personal rooms at the Venice Biennale in 1972 and 1993.
