Scharf Kenny (Los Angeles, 1958) Kenny Scharf is an American painter, who lives in Los Angeles. His works consist of depicting pop culture icons in a science fiction setting, such as the Flintstones and the Jetsons. In 2002 he created and wrote an animated series, called “The Groovenians”, but it was not successful either with critics or the public. Scharf is best known for his work in the East Village, Manhattan art scene of the 1980s, which was exhibited at the Fun Gallery (1981), before being featured at the Whitney, which selected him for the 1985 Whitney Biennial. Scharf was friend of the artist Keith Haring, with whom he created the first of his disco installations with ultraviolet lamps, called “cosmic closet” in their Times Square apartment. Scharf held several exhibitions at the Monterrey Museum of Contemporary Art, the Miami Center for the Fine Arts, and the Queens Museum of Art.
