Otto Schliwinski (1928 - ) is a German painter and graphic designer. Schliwinski grew up as the son of a horse breeder in East Prussia. In 1945 he survived the aerial bombing of Dresden. In Essen he became a design engineer in bridge construction. He worked in this profession until 1978. But Schliwinski began studying painting and graphics in Gelsenkirchen much earlier. Training as a designer laid the foundations for dealing with forms of artistic expression. In fact, in 1979 he began working on his own as a freelance painter and graphic designer. He works first in Essen, then in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. His first artistic studies were followed by a visit to the Folkwang School in Essen. Since 1961 he has exhibited in more than 60 solo exhibitions around the world. He has been a visiting professor at the Sydney College of the Arts and the Brisbane College of Photography and Art.
