Rudolph Karl Alexander Schneider, commonly known as Sascha Schneider (1870 - 1927), was a German painter and sculptor.

Rudolph Karl Alexander Schneider, commonly known as Sascha Schneider (1870 - 1927), was a German painter and sculptor.
He was born in St. Petersburg, but during his childhood he lived in Zurich and Dresden, where he later became a student of the Academy of Fine Arts in 1889. In 1903, he met the successful author Karl May and subsequently became the cover illustrator of his several books, including “Winnetou”, “Old Surehand”. A year later, in 1904, Schneider was appointed professor at the Großherzoglich-Sächsische Kunstschule in Weimar.
His artistic production goes from a youthful production characterized by disturbing and demonic atmospheres of symbolist origin to an artistic season that was inspired by neoclassicism.
In 1919 in Dresden he was among the founders of the Kraft-Kunst-Institut, a gym for gymnasts where they often posed as models in nude sessions.
Many of his works preserved in Berlin were destroyed by the Nazis and the Anglo-American bombardments destroyed some of his murals.
