Adolf Schreyer was born in Frankfurt am Main on 9 July 1828, and was a famous German painter who joined the Düsseldorf school of painting. He began his artistic studies at the Städel Institute in his hometown, and then continued them in Stuttgart and Munich. Many of Schreyer's subjects were inspired by his travels to the East. In particular, the German painter is known for his works dedicated to horses, the peasant life of Moldavia and Wallachia and battle episodes. Schreyer's work is admired for his skill in drawing horses and his careful artistic observation, combined with the strong personality of the artist himself; all this attracted the attention of French and American collectors. Adolf Schreyer died in Kronberg im Taunus on 29 July 1899.
