Sinibaldo Scorza was born on 16 July 1589 in Voltaggio and studied at the workshop of Giovan Battista Paggi in Genoa. In 1608 he met the Cavalier Marino, who celebrated him in his Gallery in 1619. In 1619 he moved to Turin to work at the Savoy court until 1625. After being exiled to Massa for accusations of treason, he obtained permission to move to Rome, where he created the painting of the "Piazza del Pasquino" preserved today in the Gallery of Palazzo Barberini in Rome. In 1627 he was rehabilitated and was able to return to Genoa. In his sacred paintings you can see the setting of the figures and the definition of the faces and clothes of Paggi, while in the small paintings the influences of Nordic pictorial culture can be found. He created many drawings of animals, small figures and landscapes, drawn with a precise and incisive line in pen, black and red pencil, or watercolours. Scorza died in Genoa on 5 April 1931.
