Ridley Scott Biography
Ridley Scott (1937 - ) was born in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, England, the son of Elizabeth and Colonel Francis Percy Scott. is an English producer and director, considered one of the biggest names in Hollywood. Ridley is known for his sci-fi horror films, such as the cult classic "Alien" and the existential sci-fi drama "Blade Runner." Belonging to an army family, Scott was in love with films since childhood. Scott studied on Teesside from 1954 to 1958, at Grangefield Grammar School and later at West Hartlepool College of Art, graduating with a Diploma in Design. He began his career with short films and eventually made his first feature film, "The Duellists", in 1977. The film won the honor of "Best Debut Film" at the "Cannes Film Festival". However, it was his second feature film 'Alien' that introduced him to Hollywood in a big way. His very moody and atmospheric directorial style was quite new to mainstream Hollywood audiences. Scott quickly earned his place as one of most notable young directors. Scott has repeated his mainstream success with "Blade Runner".
