Sebastiano Filippi Bastianino Biography

Sebastiano Filippi, known by the nickname Bastianino, was a famous Italian painter, born around 1528 in Ferrara and died on 23 August 1602 in the same city. Descended from a family of mannerist painters, he was one of the protagonists of the Ferrara school in the 16th century together with his brother Cesare Filippi.
Among Bastianino's most significant works, the fresco of the "Last Judgment" stands out, painted between 1577 and 1581, located in the apse of the Ferrara cathedral. Furthermore, the Museum of the Palazzo Ducale in Mantua preserves a painting by his hand, "The Adoration of the Shepherds", measuring 76 x 53 cm.
Bastianino collaborated with his father Camillo and brother Cesare in numerous artistic projects, including the creation of the wooden panels of the Dressing Room of the Duchesses in the Ducal Palace of Ferrara, a valuable work which involved them from 1555 to 1560.
