Gottardo Segantini was born in Pulsano in 1882. Son of the great pointillist painter Giovanni Segantini, he grew up with an aptitude for art. He proved to be very skilled in drawing and engraving, initially dedicating himself to the etching reproduction of his father's works. Subsequently he decided to perfect himself by attending the Brera Academy in Milan. After his studies, he spent six years in Rome and another two in Zurich. The Swiss Alps became the main protagonists of his paintings, although he used the pointillist technique with the use of bright and suggestive tones, he recorded numerous urban scenes on canvas or panel. His paintings were characterized by the light and air of the mountains. When he returned to Switzerland, he settled in Maloja where he began painting en plein air to capture the essence of the mountain and its inhabitants in open, luminous visions. He not only dedicated himself to landscape painting but also to still lifes of flowers and interior paintings. Gottardo Segantini died in Maloja in 1976.
