Sella Vittorio (Biella, 1859-1943) Vittorio Sella was an Italian photographer and mountaineer. Sella inherited his passion for the mountains from his grandfather, who founded the Italian Alpine Club and his photographic collection is currently managed by the Sella Foundation. The excellent quality of Sella's photos is due to the use of 30x40 cm photographic plates, for which he developed special equipment. His photographs were a great success and were presented in many exhibitions held at the American Sierra Club. Furthermore, his photographs showed mountains that had never been represented before, which is why they acquired great historical as well as artistic value.
