Lucien-Pierre Sergent, was a well-known French academic painter, born on 8 June 1849 in Massy, ​​known for his military art. Sergent studied with Vauchelet Pils and Jean-Paul Laurens. One of his most important works, entitled "The Battles of Vicksburg", dates back to 1888 and depicts the land and naval battles of Vicksburg during the American Civil War in 1863. The work was completed and subsequently exhibited for the first time in Paris , then to New York, Chicago and San Francisco, before being installed in Tokyo. Lucien Sergent died in Paris on 19 May 1904.
