Gianni Sesia Biography
Gianni Sesia della Merla, born in 1934, demonstrated his artistic ability from the age of 14, culminating in his diploma from the Liceo Artistico dell'Accademia. He has participated in numerous competitions and prestigious events in Italy and abroad. In 1995, Sesia della Merla took part in an important collective exhibition in Rome with 40 other Italian artists selected by a commission of critics, winning the third ACCA trophy. His paintings have been exhibited in prestigious galleries such as the Salambo' in Paris (1979) , the Theater Municipal in Casablanca (1988), and the Fin Art Collection in Sausalito, California (1989). He participated in five editions of the national competition "The model for art'" and from 1991 to 1998 he was invited to the "Festival Internazionale des Artes de la rue" in Dijon (F), where he obtained a first prize and two second prizes prizes among over 350 participants from all over Europe. In 1995, Sesia della Merla was awarded the international "Super Prix" in Dijon. In 1982 a monograph dedicated to his work was published, with texts by V. Bottino, E. Cobalto and A. Mistrangelo.
In 1997, Sesia della Merla was nominated Knight of the Republic for artistic merit, furthermore the City of Moncalieri awarded him honorary citizenship. In 1999, to celebrate his fifty years of artistic activity, the City of Moncalieri dedicated an anthological exhibition to him in the "A. Arduino" library. In June 2000, Sesia della Merla participated in the "Santhia Prize" and obtained the ARG medal of Pontiff G. Paolo II. In 2006, he participated in the exhibition sponsored by the Piedmont Region and the Qalyubiya Region (Egypt) "Popoli in Viaggio", at the Gallery of Modern Art in Cairo, attending the inauguration on 9 November 2006. In 2007, Sesia della Merla he exhibited in the exhibition sponsored by the Piedmont Region "Piedmont in Egypt for Peace", in Alexandria, Egypt, held from 1 to 8 November 2007 in the International Library of Alexandria, attending the inauguration. The artist's painting is on permanent display at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cairo. He also participated in the Luxor Arte Contemporanea Italiana from 1 to 8 November 2008, and his painting is permanently in the art gallery of the Luxor Academy. Sesia della Merla boasts a total of 2000 collective exhibitions and personal prizes, including the first overall prize sec. professionals "Le piazze d'Italia" competition, Rome 2008. In 2008 he celebrated sixty years of artistic activity.
