Donald Sharp, a well-known film author, was born in Hobart in 1922. He made his greatest contribution to Hammer Film Productions in the 1960s, making highly successful films such as Castle Mystery (1962) and Rasputin the Mad Monk (1965). In 1965, Sharp also directed Fu Manchu AS3, a film that follows the story of the character Fu Manchu, created by Sax Rohmer and played by Christopher Lee, one of the greatest successes of his career. Among the other titles created by the author, we remember the brilliant spy-story Our Man in Marrakesh (1966), the fantastic story Those Fantastic Flying Madmen (1967) and the remake The 39 Steps (1978), starring Robert Powell in role of Richard Hannay. Additionally, Sharp played the role of Stephen "Mitch" Mitchell in the science fiction series Journey Into Space, which aired on the BBC in 1953. Sharp passed away in 2011, aged 90.
