David Shrigley Biography

Shrigley David (Cheshire, 1968) David Shrigley is an artist and illustrator, known for his distinctive style and works that create satirical commentary on everyday situations and human interactions. Recurring themes and thoughts pervade his stories, in which he captures children's way of seeing the world, the vision of aliens and monsters. While drawing is one of his favorite techniques, the artist also works with other expressive mediums such as sculpture, installation, animation, painting, photography and music. The artist also worked frequently outside the galleries as in fruitful artistic publications and collaborative music projects. In his digital animations such as “Headless Drummer” and “The Artist” he demonstrated what “the economy of telling stories” means to the author, creating a mix of dark and light in simple shapes. In September 2016 a work by Shrigley was exhibited in Trafalgar Square for the Fourth Plinth Commission. Sherigley was a Turner Prize nominee in 2013 and subsequently there was one of his major retrospectives at the Hayward Gallery entitled “Brain Activity”. He was included in the Toulouse International Art Festival, exhibited at the Yokohama Museum of Art in Japan, the Contemporary Art British Council Collection and the Tokyo Station Gallery. Shrigley's works are included in major international collections including MoMA in New York, the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne and the Tate.
