Siegel Gustav (1880-1970) Gustav Siegel was an Austrian interior designer and furniture designer. Siegel studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts, becoming a pupil of the architect Josef Hoffmann. He was hired as chief designer in the Jacob & Josef Kohn furniture factory, creating a group of dining room and bedroom furniture, presented at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1900. Siegel designed a low-backed armchair, inaugurating a new era in the design of bent beech furniture, so much so that the model was imitated many times not only by Jacob & Josef Kohn, but also by the rival company of the Thonet brothers.
