D. Silvetrin Biography
Born in Bolzano, Italy, Danilo Silvestrin grew up in Germany starting in the 1960s. After studying architecture in Milan and Florence, Silvestrin moved to Düsseldorf in 1966, where he studied sculpture at the Folkwangschule Essen in 1966/67. During his stay in Düsseldorf, he had the opportunity to come into contact with some of the most innovative artistic minds of the time and worked closely with Günther Uecker and Heinz Mack of the ZERO group, also collaborating on the design of the visual device of Creamcheese. His passion for contemporary art has always characterized his creative work, involving artists in the design of spaces. It was precisely in this period that he created his first transparent plexiglas furniture, such as the "Ball" armchair. He also created, for the gallerist and art dealer Hans Mayer, a "white house" with a "Purist" line, characterized by almost invisible furniture, including a bed frame set into the ground. Over the years, Silvestrin has continued to collaborate with artists and create extraordinary "art spaces". In 1967 he founded his own design studio and has resided in Munich since 1971. Already in the 1980s, Silvestrin combined clean design with timeless elegance, demonstrating a particular penchant for formal asceticism. His works and designs are timeless and are able to harmonize form and functionality. In his words, "design is art that becomes useful".
