Simonini Francesco (Parma, 1686 - Venice, 1753) Francesco Simonini was an Italian painter. He trained in Parma at the school of Francesco Monti and specialized in the representation of battles. He studied the works of Borgognone in depth, copying twenty-four paintings by this author. He subsequently moved to Bologna, where he founded a school, in which he specialized in both oil and watercolor painting and to Venice, where he dedicated himself to painting landscapes, battles and fortresses. He became the official painter of commander Johann Matthias von der Schulenburg, painting many of his cavalry battles. His style is recognized by the use of fast brushstrokes and strong colours, following the influence of the Venetian school and the tendency to create elongated and sinuous figures. Other peculiarities present in this artist's painting are the depth of the landscape and the creation of a horizon line, tending to get lost between earth and sky, in its expressive drama.
