Giacomo Soffiantino (Turin, 1929-2013) Giacomo Soffiantino was an Italian painter of the 20th century. He attended the Albertina Academy, where he was a pupil of Francesco Menzio, Aldo Bertini and Mario Calandri and taught at the Art School and the Academy. He made his debut with the exhibition “Sette pittori torinesi” in 1955 at the Girodo Gallery in Ivrea and at the San Matteo Gallery in Genoa. He exhibited at the Il Milione gallery together with Merz, Ruggeri and Saroni and participated in the Venice Biennale in 1956, 1958, 1972. In 1964 he participated in the Sao Paulo Biennial in Brazil and later also exhibited in Argentina, USA, Austria, France, Greece , Germany and Switzerland. In 1983 an anthology was dedicated to him at the Palazzo della Ragione in Piazza Castello in Turin. Soffiantino was one of the major protagonists of etching and a master of the art of engraving.
