Oscar Sogaro Biography

Oscar Sogaro (Dolo 09/14/1888 – Venice 12/13/1967) attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna under the guidance of Domenico Ferri and graduated with the ministerial prize at the last course. He made his debut as a painter in Bologna, during the First World War, exhibiting at the Mostra dei Veneti. He was a pupil of Pietro Fragiacomo especially with regards to the landscapes of the last period called "harmonies of silence". In 1900 he was part of the "Cà Pesaro rebels" movement together with other painters of the caliber of Umberto Moggioli, Felice Castegnaro, Mario Disertori, Pio Semeghini, Pieretto Bianco etc. He then exhibited in Venice at the Art Biennale from 1922 to 1935 and at Cà Pesaro. Other exhibitions were in Milan, Rome, Padua, Brussels and Triestre. Painter of the glorious Cà Pesaro group, he treated, in the context of Venetian art and tradition, the figure (psychological portrait), the still life and above all the landscape (delicate visions of the lagoon and the Brenta in their changing colour). His works are located in the Town Hall and the Cassa di Risparmio of Venice, in the D'Angelo collections in Venice and the Costantini collections in Padua and in private homes.
