Robert Sonneman Biography
Robert Sonneman revolutionized the field of modern lighting, transforming it into an art form. It is internationally recognized for its clean lines and harmony between form and function. His award-winning and world-renowned designs have been at the forefront of the design industry for more than four decades. As early as the 1960s and 1970s, Robert introduced new and refined lighting designs that have become classics of the modern era. Sonneman's sensibility and eclectic stylistic vocabulary extend from 20th century architectural and decorative genres to the current and diverse 21st century aesthetic. The Sonneman lighting collection includes over a thousand designs, ranging from warm contemporary to ornamental modernism and modernist styles. Currently found in more than two thousand lighting showrooms worldwide, its product line continues to evolve with exciting new introductions in 2011. Founded in 2003, Sonneman - A Way of Light is an homage to contemporary lighting design. Working in New York, Milan and Tokyo, Robert has sold his designs around the world under the Sonneman name since 1967. In 1974 he founded Sonneman Design Group, building a large clientele spanning a variety of residential sectors. Robert Sonneman's designs have been exhibited in major museums and design exhibitions, both internationally and in the United States, for the past forty years. Additionally, Robert participates as a speaker at universities and other venues related to architecture and design.
In collaboration with his partners, David Littman, accomplished owner of several lighting companies, and Sonny Park, president of Sonneman Lighting, Robert founded Sonneman - A Way of Light. Robert lives and works in New York, continuing to innovate lighting solutions that improve our daily lives.
