Orlando Sora Biography

Orlando Sora, born in 1903 in Fano, was an Italian artist known for his skill in drawing and painting battles and duels since his childhood. In 1927, he moved to Milan, where his first exhibition achieved great success and interest from critics and the public. In 1931, Sora moved permanently to Lecco, where he concentrated on creating a series of portraits. During the Second World War, the artist dedicated himself to his passion, but also to commissioned portraits to support himself and his family of three children. During this period, Sora also carried out much research, dedicating himself in particular to the theme of the Mother, with the aim of illustrating this concept in various manifestations of life. Sora's work has found space in numerous homes in Lecco, thanks to his ability to interpret and express complex concepts. Since 1951, the artist dedicated himself to frescoes and the first example of this technique was created for the Caleotto church in Lecco. Sora represents one of the many artists of the period who was able to combine the virtuosity of provincial art with the trends of the widespread use of figurative painting in the 1930s.
