Sougez Emmanuel (Bordeux, 1889 - Paris, 1972) Emmanuel Sougez was a French photographer. At the age of 15 he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bordeaux, where he studied art, but soon dropped out to concentrate only on photography. From 1905 to 1914 he traveled extensively between Germany, Austria and Switzerland. After the First World War he became a freelance photographer in Paris. In 1926 he founded the photography department for the French weekly “L'Illustration” and promoted the use of colored photographs. Sougez's works are in the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
