Fernando Spano Biography
Fernando Spano, born on 13 March 1965 in Veglie, lives and works in Lecce. From 1983 to 1986 he worked as an apprentice and later as an assistant at an art studio in Lecce. From 1987 to 1991 he began his artistic career by participating in group exhibitions and organizing solo shows in galleries and exhibition spaces. In 1991 he was invited to two group exhibitions held in Lecce, respectively at the Carlo V Castle and at the Circolo Cittadino. From 1991 to 1997 he dedicated his artistic activity to research, experimenting with materials and new artistic techniques. From 1998 to 1999 he created, commissioned by Count Leone de Castris, a fresco for the family chapel. In 1998 the “Tyche Eventi” Association of Lecce organized a solo show entitled “Scansioni”. In 1999 his works were present at the Bari Expo at the “La Meridiana” gallery. In 2000 he participated in the collective exhibition “Situazione 2000” at the Baronial Palace of Novoli (Le) curated by E. Pascali. In 2001 he participated in the Art Expos of Padua, Verona, Forlì and Bari and the management of the "Little Museum" of Lecce asked for the creation of one of his great works, to be allocated to the art gallery being established. In 2002 and 2003 he participated in the Art Expos of Verona, Padua and Parma. In 2002 he took part in a collective painting exhibition at the Canovaggio gallery in Rome. In 2002 and 2003 the Tyche gallery in Lecce organized two solo exhibitions entitled "Io ci sono" and "Scansioni". In 2004 he was present at MIART in Milan; in the same year he was commissioned to paint the portrait of Ali Mohamad (Head of the League of Arab States Mission in Italy). In 2004 he participated in the collective exhibition at the Stamperia dell'arancio in Grottammare (Fermo). In 2005 he was present with two works in the collective exhibition “Disegno” curated by Corrado Lorenzo in Lecce. In 2005 his works were present at the Arte fair in Padua, Verona, Viterbo, Forlì, Florence Modena. Also in 2005, he held a solo show at the former Sant'Anna Conservatory entitled “Io ci sono” curated by Dino del Vecchio. In 2006 he participated in the L. Gabrieli Prize in Matino (Le) curated by Toti Carpentieri and Salvatore Luperto. In 2007, personal exhibition at the “Il divano di George” gallery in Modena. In 2008, he was present at Arte Fiera Padova, Arte Verona and Arte Forli. In 2009, he was present at Arte Fiera Padova, Arte Verona and Arte Forli. In 2010, he was present at Arte Fiera.
