Silvano Spessot Biography
He was born in 1956 in Cormòns, a rural town located in North Eastern Italy. Self-taught, since the 1970s he has been looking for his own independent way of artistic expression. Starting from post-impressionist assumptions, he was struck on the road to Damascus by studying the works of Jackson Pollock first and Alberto Burri secondly. He began a long journey on the road of chromatic material experimentation, which would lead him - throughout the 80s and 90s - to try radical expressive technical solutions with the material, but above all on the material, becoming an expert master in the use of resins, glues, as well as heterogeneous mixtures. The canvas - understood as a surface - is sometimes used, sometimes not, depending on the purposes pursued and the desired atmospheres. This research leads him to the fruitful period of polyurethanes, where experimentation leads him to the denial of both color - in the case of monochrome polyurethanes - and that of matter - in the example of polyurethanes that are barely scratched or imperceptibly damaged in their surface integrity . For Oftent it is simply a viaticum, an elaboration in search of an autonomous path, of synthesis and balance.
