Luigi Steffani Biography
Luigi Steffani was an Italian painter, born in 1827 near Bergamo. At the age of 17 he moved to Milan, abandoning his business studies to dedicate himself to painting. He began to paint Lombard landscapes and participated in exhibitions in Genoa and Milan in 1851. Subsequently, he traveled in Europe, staying in Paris in 1858 and London in 1861, enriching his artistic education. His production focused on landscapes of Normandy, Hastings and the North Sea, as well as Ligurian and Venetian motifs, establishing himself as a marine painter. In 1860, he settled permanently in Milan, where he was part of the artistic milieu of the Indunos, E. Pagliano and M. Bianchi, sharing the studio with E. Gola. He exhibited his works in important Italian exhibitions such as the Florence Exhibition of 1861 and those of Milan in 1863, 1864, 1872, 1875 and 1894, but also in Paris and London. His work was depicted mostly in seascapes and bright landscapes. Steffani died in Milan in 1898.
