George Blakie Sticks Biography

Sticks George Blackie (1843-1938) George Blackie Sticks was a landscape painter in oil and watercolor. Son of James Sticks, he was one of the most illustrious members of his family of artists. He was born in Newcastle and trained as a stained glass designer at the Williams Wailes factory. He was taught by William Bell Scott at the Government School of Art in New Castle and after leaving this job he became a full-time artist. He dedicated himself to making sketches around Scotland and the Lake District. He exhibited his work regularly at the Berwick Club and Art Association exhibitions, the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Academy. It was represented at the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle and the Shipley Art Gallery.
