Rudolf Stingel Biography
Stingel Rudolf (Merano, 1956) The central theme in his works is the passage of time made palpable, together with the expansion of the pictorial vocabulary: from the abstract paintings with silver tulle of the 90s to installations with carpets; from the series of melancholic self-portraits to the latest gold paintings, which bear the traces of time and action. Stingel uses different materials in addition to painting, such as polystyrene, carpets, polyurethane, rubber and mirrors, sometimes intending them as canvases, sometimes as colors. Stingel's work has been exhibited in several solo and group exhibitions. In his recent solo exhibitions the artist has exhibited at the Kunsthalle in Zurich in Switzerland (1995), at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, at the Palazzo delle Albere, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, at Palazzo Grassi in Venice. He also exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1993, 2003, 2006. Stingel's works are held in various institutions such as the Cruz Collection Contemporary Art Space in Miami; Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Francois Pinault Collection.
