Oliver Stone (1946 - ) is perhaps one of the most controversial and politically committed directors of his generation. Stone made some of the most seminal and enduring films of all time. With one foot consistently in the 1960s, Stone has traveled back in time in numerous films to present his unflinching take on a turbulent time of sex, drugs and endless war. Although he directed his first film in 1974 and won an Oscar for screenplay four years later, he would have to wait until "Platoon" (1986) to gain name recognition and industry respect. But once on the map, Stone made a series of exceptional films that cemented his place as one of Hollywood's most unique and compelling directors, thanks to "Wall Street" (1987), "Born on the Fourth of July" (1989) and "JFK" (1991). He is a man who addresses issues related to the destructive actions carried out by the institutions of his country of origin, the United States. His other notable films are: "Natural Born Killers" (1994), "U-Turn" (1997) and "Alexander" (2004).
