Sudek Josef (Kolìn, 1896 - Prague, 1976) Josef Sudek was a Czechoslovakian photographer, known above all for his landscapes. Josef became an apprentice photographer at Bohumila Bloudilova's studio. In 1920 he became a member of the Prague Circle of Amateur Photographers, where he met Jaromir Funke, with whom he founded the Czech photography society. In those years he came to know American photographers such as Clarence H. White, Edward Weston and attended professor Karel Novak's photography course for two years. He had his first major job in the reconstruction of the St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague and in 1926 he made a trip abroad, in which he accompanied the members of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra on a tour of Italy. He opened his studio in 1928 in Prague in the of Malà Strana and in 1932 he had his first solo exhibition. In 1940 he discovered contact printing, returning to themes such as still lifes and his own garden, using large devices. He continued to take photographs of Prague and the Castle and in 1950 he began to use the large Kodak panoramic camera of 1894. He participated in many personal and collective exhibitions and in various publications, which collected his works until 1976. One of his last exhibitions was held at the Museè de L'Elysèe in Lausanne in 1995.
