Sustris Lambert (Amsterdam, 1516 - Padua, 1595) Lambert Sustris was a 16th century Dutch painter. He spent a lot of time in Italy: in 1530 he was in Rome, and then moved to Venice in 1535. He probably worked in Titian's workshop, where he may have specialized in landscapes. After having contact with Francesco Salviati in 1540, he combined his sophisticated style with a linear Florentine mannerism and Venetian painting. From 1542 to 1543 he created frescoes in villas near Padua, creating an innovative series of elegant classical scenes. In 1548 he was in Bavaria, probably with Titian, where he painted portraits that combined Titian's recklessness with his Northern European attention to the details of fabrics and jewels. After this period in Germany Sustris' activity was unclear, although he probably worked in Venice and Padua. His son settled in Florence and became a member of Giorgio Vasari's academy.
