William Sweetlove Biography

William Sweetlove, born in Ostend, Belgium, in 1949, combines Dadaism with surrealism and pop art in humorous sculptures that at first glance may seem "kitsch". However, a greater familiarity with his works reveals their role as a creative antidote to the overproduction and excessive consumption of our society. With his cloned animals William Sweetlove calls for greater ecological awareness and pushes us to reflect on the consequences of climate change that challenge humanity. His cloned dogs wear boots since sea levels rise and penguins carry water bottles because we don't use drinking water. William Sweetlove has had exhibitions at art fairs, galleries and museums around the world. His works can be found in several private art collections. He has also participated in several artistic events around the world together with Italian Cracking Art Group. The community of Borås purchased the sculpture "Cloned Frogs on Gala Dress" in their impressive sculpture park in 2010 and dedicated it as a wedding gift to Their Royal Highnesses, The Crown Princess of Sweden and Prince Daniel.
