Gaetano Tanzi Biography
Gaetano Tanzi was born in Genoa in 1918. After studying in Naples, Tanzi spent most of his life in Rome, Paris, Montreal (Canada) and currently lives and works in his home studio. It was at the end of the 1940s when Tanzi moved away from abstractionism to propose his "geometric synthesis". His predominant theme was "Horses and the world around them". From 1966, for ten years, he illustrated the covers of the International Horse Shows in Piazza di Siena (Rome). Personal and collective exhibitions in the most important galleries and major Italian cities, including: Rome (La Barcaccia), Milan (Gall Gussoni), Florence (Spinetti), Palazzo della Esposizione permanent di Milano, Museo del Castel S. Angelo (Rome) , IX Art Quadrennial (Rome). Abroad he participated in important exhibitions, including "Contemporary Italian Art" (New York), Italian Painters in the USSR (Moscow), "Art 84" Basel (Switzerland), Cultural Center Leonardo da Vinci" Vancouver and "Istituto Italiano di Cultura " Montreal (Canada). Recently, "La Galeria Nacional de la Ciencia y Cultura" of S. Josè (Costa Rica) presented "Las majieras, las Flores…." (1997) and "Zodiago 2000" (1999). In 1997, the Mexican Cultural Institute in Costa Rica presented the exhibition "An Italian in the Caribbean". In 1972, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, in Rome, organized the large retrospective exhibition "50 TANZI 90", in the Monumental complex of S. Michele a Ripa.
