Tavella Carlo Antonio (Milan, 1668 - Genoa, 1738) Carlo Antonio Tavella was an Italian painter active in Genoa in the 17th century. He was a pupil of the painter Giuseppe Merati and of G Gruembroeck, the Solfarolo. After a long journey he settled in Genoa and in '95 he returned to Milan where he came under the influence of Pietro Mulier, the Tempesta. During his second stay in Genoa he underwent the artistic influence of Poussin and Salvator Rosa, who marked a profound transformation in the painter: his cold and green-toned painting approached warmer tones, adding new elements to the fantastic setting of the Tavellian landscape. Many of his works are found in the civic drawing cabinet of Palazzo Rosso and in the Genoese picture galleries.
