Hans Temple, born July 7, 1857 in Littau, Austria, was a Moravian-Austrian painter specializing in portraits and genre painting. He completed his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and subsequently moved to Paris where he worked with Mihály Munkácsy for two years. After opening his own studio, he became known for his ability to paint portraits of other artists in their working environment. In 1896 he received a gold medal at the Große Berliner Kunstausstellung. In 1898 he obtained a large commission from Princess Alexandrine of Baden to paint a picture representing the celebrations of her marriage to Ernest II, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1842, which took place at Karlsruhe Palace. The complete painting contained thirty-four detailed portraits. Temple died on 3 December 1931 in Vienna at the age of 74.
