Antonio Teruzzi was born in Brugherio in 1945. The first years of his activity were characterized by figurative painting with a strong personal imprint, aimed at interpreting rock engravings, animals, human figures, with the use of mixed techniques, oil and fire. Teruzzi is first and foremost a painter, but also a sculptor and engraver, he creates frescoes and occasionally does not disdain the applied arts. In painting, he loves the use of pure pigments and earths through laborious and unusual techniques such as encaustic on wood or paper, and fresco on canvas or on glossy stucco applied to even large panels. He uses it to achieve particular effects, but also for the sake of the material itself. He is fascinated by the idea of uniting matter and spirit, one of the highest goals of ancient alchemical practices. Since the 1980s he has used the encaustic technique on plaster and wood in works that lay out minimal signs in the context of sinopias of architectural schemes. A series of exhibitions set up in places of architectural interest date back to this period: disused villas, ancient courtyards and deconsecrated churches become spaces for coexistence between painting and literature.
