Pierluigi Testi Biography
Pierluigi Testi (1932 – 1993) was born in San Felice sul Panaro in 1932 and passed away in Modena in 1993. His research focuses above all on the themes of reality, still lifes, floral compositions, portraits and genre scenes . These classic subjects, however, were always interpreted by Testi with an expressionistic force and leveraging the gestures of applying colour. In 1997 the municipality of San Felice sul Panaro dedicated an anthological exhibition to him. Pierluigi Testi's pictorial language relies above all on the expressive qualities of color. The drawing structure and the perspective grid are completely undermined to make room for the strength of the brushstrokes. In fact, the vigor with which Testi creates his works is such that it borders on the typical gestures of Abstract Expressionism. Especially in the floral-themed works, however, we notice an accentuation of color synthesis. The rendering of the object is even more abstract, determined by large contrasting brushstrokes. In this expressionistic context, the color acquires strong, almost Fauvist tones, generating violent contrasts sought by the painter. The meaning of color, in fact, goes far beyond naturalism and takes on a highly symbolic, evocative and spiritual value.
