Lodewijk Toeput Detto Il Pozzoserrato Biography
Toeput (Antwerp, 1550 - Treviso, 1605) Ludovico Pozzoserrato was a Flemish painter, active in Italy in the 16th century. He arrived in Italy in 1582, where he passed through Venice, Florence, Rome and then settled in Treviso. He was greatly influenced by Venetian painting, especially by Veronese and Tintoretto. His paintings deal with religious themes, but also fantastic landscapes and views such as: the "Visitation", the "Adoration of the Magi", the "Flight into Egypt", the six "Biblical Stories", preserved in the Sala dei Conservatori of Monte di Pietà in Treviso, the decorations for the churches of San Leonardo and Santa Maria Maggiore, the frescoes in the Alessandri house in Casalmaggiore, the frescoes in the Villa of Daniele Barbaro near Asolo. He created other works such as: “Villa on a canal” (Accademia Carrara), “Fall of Phaeton” (Kestner-Museum), “Lazarus” (Gemaldegalerie), “Paesaggio pastorale” (Brera), “Fire of the doge's palace” (Galleria Giovanelli).
