Peter Tom-petersen Biography

Tom Petersen Peter (Thisted, 1861 - Ærøskøbing, 1926) Peter Tom Petersen was a Danish painter and graphic designer of the second half of the 19th century, known above all for paintings of cityscapes, interiors and other architecture. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts until 1881. His main teacher was CV Nielsen, who was first and foremost an architect and certainly influenced him in his choice of subjects. He later studied at the Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler and from 1883 to 1884 he worked with Lèon Bonnat in Paris. In 1900, already known for his natural and urban landscapes, he decided to dedicate himself to creating illustrations. He began to paint old buildings and picturesque idylls, followed by depictions of colorful German cities and Danish market towns. In 1909 Petersen became one of the founders of the “Graphic Artists Society” and served on its board of directors until 1911. In 1919 he was one of the organizers of the Faaborg Museum and was part of the administration until his death. In 1914 he served on the jury at the Baltic Exhibition.
