Giorgio Tonti (1936 - ) was born in Milan in 1936. He attended the Castello Sforzesco School of Art in Milan. At the age of twenty he won a prize for drawing at the “Premio Diomira”. Also in Milan, in parallel with his work as a painter, he carried out the well-known and appreciated work of a graphic designer, working in the fields of advertising, publishing and television. In 1964 he began his exhibition activity in Varese which continues with infrequent solo shows but always set up on the occasion of experiments or innovations in his painting. In 1968 he founded Studio Zero in Milan, among the first in Italy to create and disseminate serial art. He carries out an intense activity in the field of "multiples" and graphics, creating works for Studio Zero. Again with Studio Zero, he organizes exhibitions of graphics and serial art in New York, Caracas, Paris, Rome, Frankfurt and Tokyo. Since 1983 he suspended all exhibition activity, continuing with the profession of graphic designer and, as a painter, devoting himself exclusively to perfecting his "visual language" through intense work in his studio. He resumed exhibiting in 2001 until 2018. Since 1999 he has lived and worked continuously in Sala Monferrato (AL) until his sudden death on 20 April 2021.
