Toots Zynsky (Boston, 1951) Toots Zynsky is a contemporary designer. He attended the Rhode Island School of Design in 1973. In 1971 he assisted Dale Chihuly and others in founding and developing the Pilchuck Glass School. From 1980 to 1983 he was an important figure in the reconstruction and development of the second New York Experimental Glass Workshop, now UrbanGlass. He lived in Europe in the 1980s and 1990s, collaborating with Mathijs Teunissen Van Manen to create a machine-pulled glass thread. During these years he developed his unique “filet-de-verre” technique and received awards such as two National Endowments for the Arts and the Pell Award for Excellence in the Arts in 2006. Zynsky's works are featured in more than 70 museum collections in the world. In 2016, Zynsky was selected as the third artist for a new special glassmaking residency, a program offered by the Corning Museum of Glass and Corning Incorporated.
